Remind Yourself That You Get Courage After You’ve Done It

I’ve always found taking the first step the hardest as I’m sure many of you can relate to as well.
But after that, it’s all the same. Nothing more than a predictable repetition of the first encounter.
Every time we take up a new challenge, we get a tingling sensation in our gut; a mix of excitement, nervousness, and fear. Fear most of all. How many times have we turned down fruitful opportunities just because we have an undefined, unexplained fearful sensation? I’m sure most people relate to this. And it’s fine. It happens to the best of us
However, I think the only way to overcome your fear is actually to perform the task you are so afraid of. That’s the only way you are going to get courage.
I remember the time when I was little and was still learning to ride a cycle. With my training wheels aligned and my safety gear all set, I paddled all the way to the end of the street and thought to myself that there was no need for me to take off my training wheels. But alas, the next day my dad took me to the park – without the training wheels of course. At that time it seemed quite impossible that a two-tyred vehicle would be able to stay upright and I honestly scared, so I asked my dad not to let go after all my very life depended on it. (Needless to say, I was disappointed to know my dad had let go.) but it made me realize that all this time that I thought he was keeping me off the ground, it had been me myself who had been doing it and I remember that as the wind rushing past me took my fear away.
Fear is a natural reaction
The first step is the hardest. I don’t think there is any quotation more overused than this one. But the truth it describes is incredibly relatable because everyone starts somewhere in life and to take that first step we all need the same encouragement that pushes us through the boundaries of fear and out in the open world of fear
Anytime that we set out to accomplish something it is natural to feel a shiver or two go down your spine. But it’s important to realize those shivers will not go away unless you face what’s causing them
